Ken Doll Kurt's Year So Far
Funky Trunks F-Teamer Kurt "Ken Doll" Herzog has kicked off 2015 winning a state title against tough competition at the Victorian State Swimming Championships earlier this year.
Kurt won gold in the 200 metre freestyle over Australia's number one sprint freestyle swimmer, James Magnussen. He also picked up silver in the 400 metres freestyle.
There was no time for rest for Kurt as the NSW State Swimming Championships took place late last month. Kurt swam well finishing 6th in the 200m free and swimming a 4th place, just a fraction of a second outside of the medals in the 100m fly. He and fellow F-Teamer, Jacob Hansford, swam a strong relay finishing 3rd in the 4x100 free. The NSW State Swimming Championships will act as a great warm up leading into the Australian Swimming Championships set to be held in early April.
Kurt's goal is to swim PB times in the 100, 200 and 400 meter freestyle events and earn a spot on the Australian Swimming Team to compete at the World Swimming Championships to be held in Russia this August.
Kurt's training is a gruelling 8-10 sessions per week in the water and 2-3 sessions in the gym each week to improve his strength and power through the water. "I've still got some technical aspects of my stroke that need improving as well as general work to improve fitness, strength and flexibility. The support team I have work hard in assessing where I'm at and we implement a course of action to continue my development as an athlete." said Kurt.
Kurt manages to juggle his intensive training at SOPAC with full time study towards a Bachelor of Sports Business at the Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE). He also works as a lifeguard at Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre Baulkham Hills and Carlile Swimming at Cherrybrook.
When Kurt is not swimming, studying or patrolling the local pool, he loves to surf! He tells us he is not that good, but enjoys persisting and teaching himself to improve.
