Jacob Whittle Jets Through European Juniors

Faster than a Blue Bird: F-Teamer Jacob Whittle dips under the 50 second mark at European Juniors.

Making his international debut for Team GB at European Juniors in Kazan over the weekend was F-Teamer Jacob Whittle. Jacob secured his spot on the team after a successful British Champs, having smashed the National Age Group Records in 50 and 100 Free and becoming the first ever 14 year old to swim the 100 Free in 50.37. Now he has gone even faster.

Jacob made history in the 100 Free semi-final at European Juniors, hitting the wall in an incredible 49.97, the first 14 year old to do so. He comfortably made finals in the event and, despite being two years younger than anyone else in the race, he finished in 7th overall. His time is particularly impressive given he has now dropped more than 2.5 seconds off his 100 Free time since February.

As well as blitzing the record for 100 Free, Jacob lowered his own 50 Free Age Group Record by 0.11 seconds clocking in at 23.52. The boy can swim!

Archie Goodburn took home 2 medals from European Juniors.

F-Team success at European Juniors did not stop with Jacob, Scottish swimmer and British Age Group Record Holder Archie Goodburn also turned heads with his Silver medal swim in the 50 Breast. Coming in with a lifetime best time of 27.89 Archie secured his podium position and was just 0.12 shy of a gold medal placing.

Together Archie and Jacob were part of the British 4 x 100 Free team and the young team pushed through to a Bronze medal, finishing up the relay with a time of 3:19.88.
