F-Teamers at Euro Juniors
The 2023 European Junior Swimming Championships in Serbia showcased some awesome swims from rising stars in the pool. Two Funky Trunks F-Teamers who had a great meet were Ukrainian Ivan Harbarchuk and Ireland’s Evan Bailey.
Ivan missed his start in the 100m Butterfly final having progressed nicely through the heats and semis with sub-54 swims. He was 6thin the final with his start costing him a chance to be on the podium. However, he made amends in the 50m Butterfly with a brilliant time of 24.19, winning the bronze medal. Reflecting on his achievement, Ivan admitted he was shocked with his bronze but felt well-prepared for the meet and still feels he can go faster.
For Ivan the championships were the highlight of his entire season, and he now looks forward to taking a break and spending quality time with his loved ones.

Evan Bailey was not far behind Ivan with a 54.87 in his semi-final appearance in the 100m Butterfly having swum a 54.45 in the heats, a PB by 0.1 seconds. Evan was excited by his swim but felt he could go faster. He also swam an impressive 51.42 in the 100m Freestyle (just 0.2sec behind Ivan) and in his 200m Freestyle he swam 1:51.75 in the semi-final. With fellow F-Teamers Grace Davison and Ellie McCartney, he and John Shortt came 7thin the final of the 4 x 100m Medley Relay.
It’s now onto European U23 for Evan which are to be held at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin in August. Good work lads!
